500 Hour Program

Are you ready to take your yoga practice to new heights or answer the calling to share the profound teachings of yoga? Karma Yoga Omaha School invites all yoga teachers with a 200-hour certification to join our transformative 500-hour teacher training journey starting in fall 2019. This program is designed to foster continuous learning for both teachers and students.

Classes will be held on Saturdays and Sundays from 10 am to 5 pm once a month. Saturdays will be structured as workshops, featuring movement, study, and discussions. Our curriculum covers a comprehensive range of topics, including Techniques and Practices, Teaching Methodology, Anatomy and Physiology, Yoga Philosophy, Ethics, and Practicum. We delve into advanced subjects such as Using Props, Informed Touch, Class Sequencing, Combining Symmetrical and Asymmetrical Poses, and more.

The program will explore Ayurveda, Chakras, Ethics, Fascia, Meditation, Sutras, Sensory Awareness, Anatomy with Dr. Churchill, Hands-on Techniques, Alignment, Meridians, Reiki, Sequencing, Sanskrit, Teaching a Private Class, and developing a personal practice.

Required Readings include “Yoga of the Subtle Body” by Tias Little, “The Anatomy Coloring Book” by Wynn Kapit and Lawrence M. Elson, and “Netters Anatomy Book.” Suggested Reading comprises works like “Your Body” by Mark Singleton, “The Body Keeps the Score” by Bessel Van Der Kolk, “The Roots of Yoga” by James Mallinson and Mark Singleton, and “Waking the Tiger” by Peter Levine.

To fulfill the 500-hour Teacher Training, participants must have completed a 200-hour teacher training through an approved school, apply and be accepted into the program, and successfully complete 140 hours of classroom study. Additional requirements include preparing and presenting a themed workshop, creating a flyer for an event, teaching 25 hours of karma work, writing an article for the Karma Yoga Omaha Teacher Blog, attending a weekend workshop, completing hands-on assists, submitting a teaching video, participating in a 3-day silent retreat, accumulating 200 hours of teaching experience, attending Dharma Talks, and engaging in a mentoring session with Lisa Kanne. The journey promises to deepen your understanding of yoga and empower you to share its wisdom.
